The 2022 IFOAM-Goesan International Organic Expo draws 750,000 visitors!

The 2022 IFOAM-Goesan International Organic Expo + Industry Fair drew 750,000 visitors. The 17-Day event started last September 30th, 2022 and ended on October 16th, 2022, coinciding with the World Food Day.

The Expo hosted international conferences which included the IFOAM 50th Anniversary Commemorative Event, the ISOFAR Scientific Conference, the 2nd International Marketing Conference, the 5th Organic Asia Congress and the IFOAM Asia 10th Anniversary Commemorative Event.

The 50th IFOAM Anniversary and ISOFAR Scientific Conference, the 2nd International Organic Marketing Conference and the 5th Organic Asia Congress and 10th IFOAM Anniversary Proceedings are now available for download! The 3 International Conferences were part of the 2022 IFOAM Goesan International Organic Expo which was held from Sept 30th to october 16th, 2022 in Goesan County, South Korea.

The 4th Organic Asia Congress was a Success!

The 4th Organic Asia Congress was successfully held virtually last November 26th – 29th, 2021. The4th OAC had more than 600 registrations from 34 countries and areas around the world, making it one of the largest organic events in Asia.

The 5th IFOAM-Organics Asia General Assembly and a New Set of Board Members!

Goesan County, South Korea – IFOAM-Organics Asia held its 5th General Assembly (GA) virtually in Goesan County, South Korea on October 25th, 2021, from 14:00 – 17:00 Korean Standard Time.

New date for the IFOAM Asia General Assembly (Oct 25th)

The 5th General Assembly of IFOAM Asia will be moved from October 11th to October 25th, 2021. A recent legislation in South Korea makes Monday a holiday if any legal public holiday fall on the weekends. On Oct 9th, South Korea celebrates its Hangul (Korean Language) Day, on a Saturday and so the following Monday automatically becomes a holiday.

The legislation was passed recently after we had already announced the date of our GA.

The Call for Papers for the 4th Organic Asia Congress is still open!

The 4th OAC under the theme “Asia Go Organic for A Healthier Planet” will be held on November 22nd – 27th, 2021 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The IFOAM Asia General Assembly and the Call for Members of the Nomination Committee - IFOAM Board Elections

The IFOAM Asia General Assembly and Board Elections will be on October 11th. IFOAM Asia is seeking for dedicated persons who can serve on the Nomination Committee of the board elections.

The Committee shall look for potential IFOAM Asia board candidates from Asia and Central Asia and evaluate potential board candidates and see to it that the candidates meet the election requirements.


Mr. and Mrs. Kaneko win the One World Award/IFOAM Lifetime Achievement Award!

On April 26th, 2021, the Asian Organic Community comes together to celebrate the ceremony of the IFOAM Lifetime Achievement Award. Our very own Yoshinori and Tomoko Kaneko whose contributions to the organic movement in Asia have been very significant for the past 50 years will be receiving the One World Award / IFOAM Lifetime Achievement Award. This Award is part of the One World Award, the most prestigious award given to organic pioneers and innovators by Rapunzel and IFOAM-Organics International every three years.

To celebrate this achievement, IFOAM Asia will have a pre-event activity via Zoom on April 26th at 2030 – 2200 Japan Standard Time. Join us in this wonderful event! Everyone is invited!

Application for the Virtual ALGOA Organic Foundation Course 2021 is now open!

Due to the pandemic, the ALGOA Organic Foundation Course will again be held virtually, from June 21st – 26th, 2021. 

The ALGOA Organic Foundation Course is a training program on organic agriculture offered to local government officials and IFOAM Asia affiliates as part of the ALGOA project. All participants will receive a “Certificate of Completion” on the successful completion of the course and will be eligible for future in-depth training offered by ALGOA.

The ALGOA OFC Alumni Year-Ender Party

The ALGOA OFC Alumni Network will have its 2020 Year-Ender Party on 26th November from 1500 – 1700 Korean Standard Time. This virtual party via Zoom is exclusive for graduates of the ALGOA Organic Foundation Course from 2016 – 2020. 

The 6th ALGOA & Inaugural GAOD Summits were Successfully Completed!

On September 18th to October 16th, 2020, ALGOA celebrated its 5th anniversary and its 6th Summit.

On Sept 18th, more than a thousand people from 33 countries all over the world participated at the 5th ALGAO Anniversary Celebrations which included the official launching of the Young Organic Global Network (YOGN) and the matriculation ceremony of the Organic Foundation Course.

From Oct 12th to the 16th, the 6th ALGOA Summit was held under the banner of “Building Alliances Beyond Asia” together with the inaugural Summit of the Global Alliance of Organic Districts (GAOD). More than one thousand six hundred participants from 46 countries took part in the Summit sessions.

We will adjust our messages to build on the heightened public awareness of the need for a paradigm shift: Questions around resilience, societal transformation, ecosystem regeneration, health and food sovereignty are more important than ever and we will address these under the event’s tagline – ‘From its roots, organic inspires life.’ Our ambition remains to offer a truly global and diverse space that inspires positive change through knowledge exchange, learning and the formulation of sustainable solutions, for a better tomorrow for all.

The 2020 ALGOA Organic Foundation Course Application is officially closed and the delegates have been chosen!

ALGOA or the “Asian Local Governments for Organic Agriculture” was established in September 2015 to promote the full adoption of organic farming practices in Asia and to increase networking among local governments in Asia and the private sector involved in organic farming.

Application to the ALGOA Organic Foundation Course 2020 is offered to ALGOA members, IFOAM Asia affiliates and partners in Asia. Priority will be given to participants from developing countries. Full and partial sponsorships are offered to all eligible participants.


The Organic Youth Forum Goes to Nagaland, India! Application is now open!

IFOAM Asia under the sponsorship of the State of Nagaland, India will be hosting the “Asia Organic Youth Forum” from November 26th to December 1st, 2019.

Eight specially-selected foreign youths will join 22 local youths for a 4-day training on the basics of organic agriculture and leadership. A one-day public session will be held where organic pioneers from Asia will speak on their experiences and vision on the future of organic farming in Asia.

The ALGOA + 4 International Summit on Organic Agriculture Policy

The Asian Local Governments for Organic Agriculture (ALGOA) is a sub organization of IFOAM Asia and works with over two hundred local governments in Asia to promote the expansion of organic agriculture. Every year, the annual ALGOA Summit is held in Goesan county, South Korea, the holder of ALGOA presidency, and is attended by government leaders, researchers, advocates and practitioners from all over Asia.

This year , the ALGOA + 4 International Summit on Organic Agriculture Policy will be held on September 18th – 21st in Goesan County, South Korea. More than a hundred foreign guests will be present at the Summit with participation from over all the continents – the first time ALGOA has gone global.

Representatives from international agencies such as the FAO, local and foreign governments will grace the historic occasion. The IFOAM Organics International and IFOAM Asia board will be also be present as well as representatives from the regional bodies including the farmer representatives from the Intercontinental Network of Organic F arming Organizations (INOFO)

IFOAM Asia hosted numerous events that were held in different parts of Asia. For the first time ever, the Asian Local Governments for Organic Agriculture (ALGOA) included four addtional continents in its annual Summit, the ALGOA+4 International Summit on Organic Agriculture Policy, signifying ALGOA’s reach to the global stage. In Xichong, China, the 1st Xichong Innovation Summit took place and for the first time in one year, two IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum were held on the same year. 2019 was one of the busiest years for IFOAM Asia as it continues to mainstream organic agriculture in Asia.


The 4th IFOAM Asia General Assembly Elections Results

The 4th IFOAM Asia General Assembly was held on June 1st, 2019 in Xichong County, Sichuan Province, China.
The GA was attended by 78.5% of the IFOAM Asia membership and was chaired by Mr Mathew John from Keystone Foundation, India. Three Board of Directors were elected by the GA and IFOAM Asia’s Sundeep Kammath from India was re-elected. Eduardo Uychiat from the Philippines and Selina Gan from Malaysia were elected as new IFOAM Asia Board of Directors. 

The 1st Xichong Asia Organic Innovation Summit

The 1st Xichong Asia Organic Innovation Summit was successfully held in Xichong County, Sichuan Province, China last May 30th to June 1st, 2019.  The Summit is a biennial meeting of innovators and the stakeholders in the organic industry from all over the world. It is jointly organized by Xichong County and IFOAM Asia to highlight innovations in the organic sector and search for ways of dissemination of these innovations in farming practices, policies, technology, research and networking.

The 2019 Organic Medal of Honor Awardees

The Selection Committee of the Organic Medal of Honor announces the following nominations as the two recipients for 2019 (in alphabetical order according to country): Kerala Jaiva Karshaka Samithi (KJKS) (Kerala Organic Farmer’s Association) from India and The Youth Collabo Farm from South Korea.

The two recipients will receive a cash award of USD 5000 (five thousand dollars only) in a special ceremony at the 1st Xichong international Organic Innovation Summit, on May 30th, 2019, Xichng County, Sichuan Province, China.

The 2019 IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum in New Taipei City, Taiwan

The 2019 IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum was successfully held in New Taipei City, Taiwan on the 26th – 29th of March, 2019. It was fully sponsored by the New Taipei City government.

The 4th IFOAM Asia General Assembly in Xichong County, China

The 4th IFOAM Asia General Assembly will be held in Xichong County, China on June 1st, 2019. This will be held right after the International Organic Innovations Conference on the 30th – 31st of May, 2019. 

3 New Board of Directors will be elected at this General Assembly. 

The 3rd Organic Asia Congress was a great success!

The Organic Asia Congress (OAC), IFOAM Asia’s biggest event of the year was held in Bislig City, Philippines last September 16-21, 2018. More than 5,000 delegates visited Bislig, the organic city in the Philippines during the week long event which included the 6th Asian Organic Rice Conference, Organic Youth Forum, ALGOA Philippine Members’ Forum, Organic Trade Fair and the OFIA Summit.

2 IFOAM Asia and ALGOA Members bagged the 2018 Future Policy Award

2 members of IFOAM Asia and Asian Local Governments for Organic Agriculture (ALGOA) have bagged the prestigious Future Policy Award in Rome, Italy! The 100% organic state of Sikkim got the Gold Prize while the Arms to Farms Program of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte, Philippines was awarded the Honorable mention.


The 2018 IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum

The IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum was successfully held at the SURSECO Bislig Office at Bislig City, Philippines, last September 16th – 18th, 2018. 26 foreign delegates from all over the world and more than 80 youth leaders from the Philippines took part of the annual IFOAM Asia event.

The 2018 IFOAM Asia Organic Youth Forum PreTour in Mindanao, Philippines

The Organic Youth Forum had a pre-tour before their actual conference at the 3rd Organic Asia Congress last September 11th- 15th, 2018 in various organic learning sites and municipalities in Mindanao, Philippines.

In 2022, IFOAM – Organics International turns 50, IFOAM Organics Europe 20, and IFOAM Organics Asia 10. To mark these milestones, we’re celebrating 2022 as the Year of Organics!

The aim of the Year of Organics is to raise awareness of how organic agriculture can be a pathway to addressing not only hunger and malnutrition, but also other challenges including poverty, water use, the climate crisis, as well as unsustainable production and consumption.

IFOAM Asia is based in Seoul, South Korea and was established as a regional group of IFOAM Organics International in 2012. There are more than 270 members in 22 countries in IFOAM Asia.

IFOAM Asia is the only regional umbrella organization of the organic movements in Asia and is officially registered as a legal entity in South Korea as a non-profit organization.
